A connection to the garden.

Convergent House

A new addition including parent’s retreat and living space.

Locating and integrating a parent’s retreat with an alluring quality, was the initial question we faced. The original house was a classic 70’s era suburban house with a lovely aspect, large windows and rectilinear layout on a sloping site.

Planned on a single floor with a significant change in level at the rear, to a lush and sunlit back yard, felt like a missed opportunity. We believed this height could be utilised for new interior spaces with a strong connection to outside.

Nature Connection

A parents retreat and informal living space with direct garden access was added to the rear which gave opportunity for a courtyard balcony and roof garden at the existing ground floor without impeding view. In minimising invasive construction into the existing house, the proposed addition could be economical but also add great value for family life.
